Beer Spotlight: Staffordshire Brewery Double Sunset Ale

A well balanced amber ale with a hint of citrus which has been triple filtered for a clean crisp finish. Comes in a glass bottle.

About the Company
In the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands, Adrian Corke and Sue Carline began brewing hand-crafted beers. First made in 2002 in their garden shed, with 2 fermenters and a 4 barrel plant, they both bottled the ales in the kitchen!

As sales grew, they moved to a 1000 sq ft unit in Cheddleton, enabling a 6 barrel plant to be set up. The beers were sold mostly at local farmers’ markets.

In 2010, Nigel Cope joined the company as a shareholder and director, involving a considerable personal investment. Six new recipes were formulated and, over 12 months, the plant has expanded to 20 barrels. All our bottled beers are triple cold filtered and carbonated giving them the characteristic sparkle and taste in the bottle.

A high speed bottling line has been installed for the company’s own use, but which also offers contract bottling for other specialist breweries.

grisettemain

Beer Spotlight: Sly Fox Grisette Working Class Ale Beer

Grisette is a Belgian style ale which was originally brewed in the Hainaut province to be the beer of the miners in the area, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. It was lighter than Saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt (as does the Sly Fox version). The name is derived from the French word for "gray," referring to both the drab factory frocks worn by the young women (the Grisettes) who doled out pints as the men exited from the mines, and also the color of the cobblestone rock being mined.

About Sly Fox
Sly Fox Brewing Company is headquartered in Pottstown, Pennsylvania with a 50-hectoliter production brewery at 331 Circle of Progress.

Sly Fox’s success has been due not only the award-winning quality of its beers but also to solid judgment and forward-looking business decisions. The company was an early adopter of the craft-beer-in-a-can revolution and became the first brewery in the Mid-Atlantic region to put in a canning line in 2006, at Royersford. The awarding of a Gold Medal to Sly Fox Pikeland Pilsner at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in Denver marked the first time a GABF medal of any sort had been given to a canned craft beer.

Beer Spotlight: Brewdog Unleash the Yeast- American Ale, Beglian Trappist, Bavarian Weizen and Pilsen Lager

The unsung heroes, the foot soldiers of the revolution. We owe a huge debt to the billions of tiny yeast cells that work tirelessly to ferment sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. But yeast isn't just here for the grunt work. Yeast has the power to change the flavor, aroma and complexion of your beer in an instant. This series is designed to showcase the impact different yeasts have on the same base beer. This series of 4 beers gives the limelight to four totally different yeast strains: Belgian Trappist, Pilsen Lager, American Ale and Bavarian Weizen. All 4 beers have been brewed to the same ABV using a blend of Centennial and Amarillo hops and a backbone of Pale Ale, Munich and Cara Malts.

About the Company
Martin and I (James) were bored of the industrially brewed lagers and stuffy ales that dominated the UK market.

We decided the best way to fix this undesirable predicament was to brew our own beers. Consequently in April 2007 BrewDog was born.

Both only 24 at the time, we leased a building, got some scary bank loans, spent all our money on stainless steel and started making some hardcore craft beers.

We brewed tiny batches, filled bottles by hand and sold our beers at local markets and out of the back of our beat up old van.

Our biggest mission when we set up BrewDog was to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. And that is still our biggest mission today.

Beer Spotlight: BrewDog Cocoa Psycho Imperial Russian Stout

Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns.

Originally brewed some 250 years ago to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this 10% Imperial Russian stout borrows from the decadence of the time with its extravagantly smooth blend of crushed coffee beans, cocoa nibs and dark malts.

But continue to dig a little deeper, past the infusions of vanilla pods and toasted oak chips, and eventually you'll come face-to-face with the madness required to make this beer; a kind of insanity that would have made Rasputin himself proud.

To fully unleash the aromas and bittersweet luxury of this stout, we recommend drinking it from a stemmed beer glass before taking a sledgehammer to a Faberge Egg.
