About teapigs

Nick and Louise started teapigs in November 2006 with one mission – to get the nation drinking real tea again. They met whilst working for a really big tea company, where they learned all about tea and drank lots of it. And the more they learned, and the more they drank, the more they came to realise something: that there's a whole world of quality teas out there that simply aren't getting the attention they deserve. And so teapigs was born. Read More

Tea Spotlight: teapigs Popcorn tea – fab japanese treat

This tea has flourished from humble beginnings - Japanese peasants used to mix green tea with toasted rice to make it go further. It is now celebrated in its own right as Genmaicha tea, or Popcorn tea. "Sugar Puffs in a cup" - a truly unique blend with an almost nutty undertone.

how does it taste?
Green tea with a popcorny, almost nutty undertone. “Sugar Puffs in a cup” – truly unique.

good if you're feeling
In need of a treat. As indulgent as a trip to the movies, but without the violence and naughty language, this sweet green tea will lift your spirits.

how we like it
Pure and unadorned, unless you have a really sweet tooth.

brew time
tea temple - 1 per person. Brew for 3 minutes, best with water at 80 degrees C. (If you don't have a fancy kettle or thermometer to hand, grabbing the kettle just before it boils will do the trick!)
Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it.

Ingredients

green tea, toasted rice

Tea Spotlight: teapigs mao feng green tea

Call us soppy romantics, but we like this story. A young man and a beautiful young woman from a tea plantation were in love, but the local tyrant seized her as his concubine. She escaped, only to learn that the tyrant had killed her lover. Finding his body deep in the mountains she wept and wept until she became the rain, while her lover's body turned into a tea bush. Which is why, according to the legend, the area where Mao Feng tea grows is forever cloudy and humid the whole year round. All together now…ahhh! This tea is special, unlike any other green tea on the market. A green tea liked by people who don’t like green tea.

how does it taste?

This tea has a delicate natural taste of fresh summer air, peaches and apricots. The infusion will turn clear pale green (not the murky brown you often see with standard green teas).

good if you're feeling

In need of a make-over. Can’t afford rehab, liposuction or Botox? Why not settle for a nice cuppa? You may have heard about the many reputed benefits of drinking green tea, ranging from weight loss to anti-ageing - more fun than cosmetic surgery!

how we like it

Best drunk as it is. No need to add anything.
Iced
Just cover one tea temple with 80 degree C water and infuse for 3 minutes. Remove temple and top-up glass with iced water. Garnish with cucumber slices.

brew time

  • tea temple - 1 per person. brew for 3 minutes, best with water at 80 degrees C. (If you don't have a fancy kettle or thermometer to hand, grabbing the kettle just before it boils will do the trick!)
  • loose tea - 2 rounded teaspoonfuls per person, infuse for 3+ minutes.

Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it.

Nick describes himself as a tea evangelist (although much nicer than those shouty ones on American TV). Louise, an experienced tea taster who has travelled the world tasting teas, is a self-confessed tea addict (not seeking rehab).

Together they founded teapigs and, since 2006, the teapigs team has grown a little. As well as Nick and Louise, there's now a team of 20!

Drink Spotlight: Teapigs Matcha Green Tea

We like to think of it as a sort of superhero amongst teas, as it’s a super-concentrated green tea powder that’s packed with antioxidants and nutrients. teapigs matcha comes from the renowned Nishio region in Japan, where the tea leaves are grown under cover to produce lots of amino acids and chlorophyll (the bright green good stuff).

  • Pure matcha - ground green tea leaves from Japan
  • Dairy free
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans
