TULLAHOMA, Tenn., Oct. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than a century, the team at George A. Dickel & Co. has brought incredible whiskies to consumers in Tennessee and beyond. Now, 150 years since its founding, the company is looking ahead to its next chapter with the launch of the Cascade Moon Whisky series - a brand new line of highly limited whiskies that are sure to be sought after by whisky fans around the country and pay homage to the distillery's history while setting the tone for the future of the whisky category.

Even the name of the series, which is inspired by Cascade Hollow's original Cascade Pure Whisky that used the tagline 'mellow as moonlight', strikes a balance between the traditional and contemporary. The first release from the lineup, Cascade Moon Edition No. 1, brings the best of Cascade Hollow to market, with Austin blending a specialized whisky that is inspired by, and features, similar tasting notes found in a gose-style beer.

Whisky fans and afficionados can expect variety with each release, as each variant will differ based on what Austin's current inspirations are and offer drinkers a unique tasting experience. For Cascade Moon Edition No. 1, this 11-year-old whisky offers savory pretzel-like notes, along with bright and fruity notes of raspberry, pineapple and coconut. At 84 proof (42% ABV), Cascade Moon Edition No. 1 is surprising and unexpected, encouraging you to sip again and again to taste its unique flavors.

New Coffee Bourbon Wins Gold Medal at 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

SAN ANTONIO, June 10, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Devils River Whiskey, maker of premium small batch whiskeys, announces the launch of Devils River Coffee Bourbon Whiskey, a San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold Medal winner and a rich, smoky addition to their family of whiskies.

When it comes to popular drinks, coffee and whiskey score pretty high up on the list. So what do you get when you combine them in one bottle? A heavenly fusion of flavors and the makings of an instant classic.

"We believe coffee and whiskey are natural companions. Both have intense character and intricate processes," says Mike Cameron, co-founder and Distiller of Devils River Whiskey. The Texas based team chose a local San Antonio coffee roastery with standards to match its own meticulous distilling process. All of the beans are "fair trade" and come responsibly sourced from Columbia, Brazil and Honduras.

"After trying a variety of roasting styles, we found that the dark Vienna Roast best compliments our whiskey, adding another layer to its deep flavor profile," states Cameron. "The Vienna Roast is the most difficult roast to achieve on a consistent basis, so of course we had to take on the challenge. Besides being darker, richer and more aromatic, this blend has a full body that features caramel, citrus and berry notes with a rich, satisfying finish."

But the team at Devils Whiskey didn't stop there. To further enhance the flavor of their Coffee Bourbon, they opted for a cold brew process. "During our research we discovered hot brewing forces the flavor from the bean, but cold brew likes to take its own sweet time," says Devils River Whiskey Vice President of Marketing, Eric Hundelt. "We steep our Devils River Bourbon with the dark roasted Vienna coffee beans for at least 24 hours at a low temperature to bring out the smooth, sweet flavor cold brew coffees are known for."

Wake-Up Whiskey Sour

1.5 oz. Devils River Coffee Bourbon1 oz. simple syrup1 oz. lemon juice.25 oz Heering cherry liqueur (optional) 1 egg white

Instructions: Place all ingredients in a shaker tin without ice and shake rapidly for 15-20 seconds. Strain over large ice cubes, retaining froth at top of the drink. Garnish with a lemon peel.

Coffee Colada

2oz Devils River Coffee Bourbon .5oz simple syrup1.5oz pineapple juice1.5oz orange juice

1.5oz coconut cream (Coco Lopez)

Instructions: Add all ingredients to shaker tin with ice and shake for 20 seconds. Strain into a hurricane glass with ice.

Spirits Spotlight: Whiskey Prison Releases First Bourbon: Conviction

 

 

MT. PLEASANT, N.C., Nov. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Conviction Small Batch Bourbon has been released from prison. Southern Grace Distilleries, the first distillery in the United States to be located in a former prison, has released their first bourbon after opening their doors three and a half years ago: Conviction Small Batch Bourbon.

"The hard time aging in oak barrels behind bars here at Whiskey Prison has created a cask strength bourbon that's subtly sweet and smooth," said Southern Grace Distilleries CEO Leanne Powell.

Reviews seem to agree. As John Trump wrote for Liquor.com, "It's remarkably smooth and complex. The nose reveals ripe cherries and a comforting hint of cinnamon, bringing to mind warm apples covered in brown sugar. A sip offers hints of honey and just a touch of oak. Ingredients
2 parts Basil Hayden’s® Rye Whiskey
1/2 part Sweet Vermouth
3/4 part Cinnamon Syrup
3/4 part Lemon Juice
5 Dark Cherries
2 dashes Aromatic Bitters

Method
1. Add cherries to a cocktail shaker and muddle.
2. Combine all ingredients into cocktail shaker with muddled cherries.
3. Add ice and shake.
4. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

 

 

Basil Hayden's Fall Shandy

Ingredients
2 parts Basil Hayden’s ® Bourbon 1/2 part Aperitivo 1/2 part Simple Syrup 1/2 part Lemon Juice 2 parts Citrus IPA Orange Twist (for garnish) Mint Leaf (for garnish)

Method
1. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker except the IPA.
2. Add ice, shake and strain over ice into a chilled collins glass.
3. Top with IPA and garnish with an orange twist and mint leaf.
