Company Spotlight: Tom’s Roasting Co.

With every bag of coffee you purchase, TOMS will provide one week of clean water to a person in need. One for One.®
Coffee for You | Water for All

It is estimated that 1.8 billion people are drinking unsafe water. That's why we're partnering with Water For People to support water systems in 5 countries - the same countries we source our coffee beans from.

Featured Seasonal Roasts

Each region we source from produces a signature flavor profile, but they all have one thing in common: a proud, longstanding tradition of great coffee. Our beans are roasted locally in the U.S.A. – a custom, fine-tailored process to illuminate the defining characteristics of each region's harvest.

About the Company
Blake Mycoskie is the Founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS, and the person behind the idea of One for One, a business model to help a person in need with every product purchased. A simple idea has grown into a global movement: TOMS Shoes has provided over 10 million pairs of shoes to children since 2006, and TOMS Eyewear has restored sight to over 175,000 since launching in 2011. Tech Spotlight: Social Santa app can track how often you curse on Twitter

Have you been naughty or nice this year? Are you expecting Santa to bring you some lovely gifts? You can check if you deserve it via the app called Social Santa that analyses your tweets and counts how many times you’ve used obscene words—not in real life though, but on Twitter.

This simple and fun experience for both mobile and desktops has been developed by the UK social-media specialist A Social Media Agency, which is part of 10 Yetis PR Agency, together with the web developers Forrk. As the creators of the app say, this tracker is “going to save Santa a lot of time” to identify who has been nice or naughty.

Want to BreakUp? There’s an App for that

So you’ve had enough, but still don’t have to guts to tell this in his/her face? iOS app developers are one step ahead of you, as they created an app that sends break-up texts depending on several criteria pertaining to your relationship.

Upon paying $0.99 and installing the app on an iOS device, cowards users have to make a few selections. First of all, the gender of the soon-to-be-dumped person must be selected. Next, the type of relationship needs to be picked and the options are “Serious” and “Casual”. The final step implies picking the context of the break-up. While some of the options are rather realistic (“I lost interest” & “I found someone else”), others are incredibly hilarious and improbable (“I was eaten by a bear”).

Tech Spotlight: LikeMind App

LikeMind does not bury the lead when it comes to what it’s offering. It’s pretty much right in the name of the app. This is a social network for discovering people with similar interests, opinions, ideas, etc. It’s designed to help you find new people and socialize with them based on a commonality between the two of you, like if Facebook started linking you with people based on things that you “like.” Available this week for iOS, LikeMind is aiming to bring people nearby even closer by giving them a reason to get to know each other.

You can think of LikeMind as part social network and part Craigslist posting. The social networking is pretty much as you’d expect: You create a profile, put up some pictures, provide basic information about yourself (including your relationship status because “dating site” is always the best backup plan for any social network) to fill out said profile, and make it public for people who may stumble across you in their location-based feed of possible new friends.

New Mobile App from Nara Delivers Restaurant Recommendations Just For You

We’ve already seen Dish.fm crunch the massive amount of data from online restaurant reviews to recommend the best eateries for its users, but our latest spotting aims to go even further to personalize results. Nara is an app that uses a Pandora-like neural network that learns users’ tastes every time they use it and offer accurate recommendations for eating out.

Created by a team consisting of “neuroscientists, computer scientists, astrophysicists, artists and entrepreneurs”, the app first asks users a few questions about the kind of eateries they like, based on food types, atmosphere and demographic, among others. When a suggestion is made, it can either be upvoted or downvoted depending on the user’s opinion, which can be logged either before or after they’ve tried it out. Foursquare check-ins are integrated to keep track of where users have been before, and which restaurants they like to go to regularly. By checking this against the decisions made by every other Nara user, the system quickly begins to intuit the kinds of decisions made by those with similar tastes. The following video explains more about the app:

Tech Spotlight: SapientNitro Social Stock Ticker

SapientNitro has created a 'social stock ticker' aimed at CEOs of publicly listed companies to measure social media activity, designed in the image of telegraphic stock tickers of the mid-19th century.

"The social stock ticker brings the same focus to business-critical social conversations - a space with which C-suite executives are notably disconnected. By crashing together digital with analogue outputs, the social stock ticker introduces a visible and audible reminder to busy executives of the value of their company's social stock."

The device prints hourly and daily reports of positive and negative tweets and estimations on whether public sentiment is up or down.
