Industry News: Ethical Bean Coffee Launches 100% Compostable Single-Serve Pods

Vancouver BC – Vancouver-based Ethical Bean Coffee, already famous for their delicious fair trade certified organic coffee, is proud to announce the launch of a unique 100% certified compostable single serve pod. With a strong ongoing commitment to fair and environmentally friendly production practices, Ethical Bean has gone one step further with an innovative solution to the large environmental challenge of single serve coffee plastic waste.

Convenience meets sustainability and taste with Ethical Bean’s new 100% compostable pods. Made from coffee bean chaff and other renewable materials, the entire pod can be thrown directly into the green bin and will completely break down in a municipal composter in less than 84 days.

It is estimated that 10 billion single serve plastic coffee pods are thrown into North American landfills every year, an issue that has reached an environmental tipping point globally.

At Ethical Bean, we believe that when it comes to sustainability initiatives, third party verification is the gold standard. Finally we are able to add compostability to our fair trade, organic and B-Corp certifications,” says Ethical Bean Co-founder and CEO, Lloyd Bernhardt. “Our new pods provide a better solution for single serve coffee drinkers who appreciate great tasting coffee and are concerned about the environment.”

Ethical Bean’s 100% compostable single serve pods are available on Amazon and at select US retailers.

Company Spotlight: Clubtails – Cocktail in a Can

Someone once told us that you can’t CAN a party. Well, we can CAN it. And we did. Eight kinds of party, in fact.  We call them Clubtails. You can call them awesomesauce.

Miraculous as it may seem, there now exists a range of perfectly blended cocktails in ready-to-drink, single-serve cans.  Crazy. Yeah, we know.

We know what you’re thinking: How did this almost unbelievable turn of events come to pass? Well, we were sitting around shooting the shizzle one day, with our arms aching from shaking and stirring cocktails, and someone wise said, “Can it!”  Someone got offended and before we knew it, there was no more mixing and no more mixer.

But the next day, when we were going through the drudgery of making cocktails once more the old-school way, we all remembered, “Can it!”

Why mix a mixie when you don’t have to?

What we’re dealing with here is 8 classic cocktails, reborn in can format, like a porcupine that gets reincarnated as something more sleek and insanely cool, like a jaguar.

Clubtails are cocktails as Nature intended them. But that’s Party Nature, not Mother Nature.

Think it’s impossible to get perfect cocktails from a can? You carry on thinking that – the rest of us are ready to party.

Ditch the dreary. Sip on some awesome.

It is said “if you enjoy your job, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Birch Coffee is just that.

What began as an idea and as two individuals’ desire to love what they did for a living has quickly turned into something so much more. The thought to provide people with their morning and afternoon cup of coffee has evolved into helping create a local stomping ground for people and cultivate an environment of ideal-seeking,

We like the planet, and, well, most of its inhabitants. We serve food harvested as locally as possible and use Rainforest Alliance and bird friendly coffee and tea. Did we mention no turtles are hurt in our coffee production!? Read More

About the Company
Here is how Death Wish Coffee got started:

After owning and running a coffee shop for the past 5 years in up-state NY a problem surfaced, all of the premium dark roast coffee on the market was not as caffeinated as the lighter roasts.

Customers would come in and say: “Give me a cup of your strongest coffee.”

and I would reply: "We serve nothing but the best coffee here, but our strongest tasting coffee is not our most caffeinated coffee".

A puzzled look would usually follow and I would try to give an explanation. Read More

Melitta

Melitta brand in Brazil debuts single-serve cartons

Coffee-flavored milk drinks from Melitta are packaged for on-the-go consumption in easy-to-grip, single-serve liquid cartons—a first in Brazil.

Global coffee specialist Melitta has selected a liquid carton packaging system from SIG Combibloc for its coffee-flavored milk drinks. The Wake brand beverage, available in Toffee, Mocca, and Chocoberry (white chocolate and strawberry) flavors, is available
in combifitSmall250-mL carton packs—the first time these on-the-go cartons have been offered in Brazil.

“Ready-to-drink coffee drinks are becoming more and more popular in Brazil, and with good reason,” says Ricardo Rodriguez, cluster head South America at SIG Combibloc.
“Not only do they taste great, but they perk you up in a natural way. Packaged ready to drink, they’re ideal for mobile consumers who don’t want to miss out on an energizing coffee treat even when they’re out and about, such as playing sport or enjoying their leisure time. Traditionally, in Brazil people still mainly brew coffee freshly and drink it hot, but we’re seeing clear potential for growth, especially with a dynamic, young consumer group.”
