Food Spotlight: Pop-Dot Supports Largest Product Launch In Johnsonville History

Agency's Award-Winning Efforts Represent Only the Latest Work for the Consumer Packaged Goods Company

MADISON, Wis., April 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sausage-maker, Johnsonville, is entering the chicken category with its newest product innovation: Flame Grilled Chicken. This spring's rollout to grocery stores nationwide will represent the company's largest product launch in its 71-year history. To assist in its strategic sales and marketing efforts, Johnsonville tapped Wisconsin-based agency, Pop-Dot.

"It's always an honor to be called on by Johnsonville," said Jason Fish, President at Pop-Dot. "They're a highly-respected company with a long history of success, due in large part to a culture that values innovative thinking—of which Flame Grilled is a perfect example."

Pop-Dot's work on Flame Grilled Chicken is only the latest collaboration between the Madison-based agency and Johnsonville. Sales materials designed by Pop-Dot for the launch won an American Advertising Award. Pop-Dot's work for Johnsonville has also included packaging designs, merchandising concepts, brand development and more.

"Working with members of Johnsonville's Innovation Center in Chicago, and the marketing team at the Sheboygan Falls headquarters, is very collaborative," said Ray Andrew, Creative Director at Pop-Dot, who consulted on Johnsonville's newly-released logo refresh. "Opinions are always respected, and egos put aside. This allows for the best ideas to manifest."

In addition to Johnsonville, Pop-Dot's client roster shows an agency that can punch above its weight. It includes the likes of Colony Brands—a billion-dollar retail powerhouse with nearly two dozen brands and affiliated companies under its umbrella, adhesives ground-breaker Glue Dots International, Italian cheese manufacturer Grande Cheese Company, multi-continental pharma-giant Catalent, the highly-venerated Jazz Institute of Chicago, nationally-renowned healthcare service provider Erdman, and more.

Food News: Jennie-O Introduces All Natural Turkey Sausage

New sausage recipe meets growing demand for "clean label" foods

WILLMAR, Minn., Jan. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A versatile ingredient in many favorite recipes, sausage has long been a staple of American meals. Now, as more of today's consumers seek out all natural foods with simple ingredients Jennie-O — a company that believes eating well shouldn't come at the cost of taste — is serving up a lean and delicious solution perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner: new JENNIE-O® All-Natural Turkey Sausage.

Available in original and hot varieties, new JENNIE-O® All Natural Turkey Sausage offers home cooks a great-tasting lean alternative to traditional pork sausage with lower fat content and a simple, clean ingredients list: just delicious turkey, salt, sugar, a blend of spices and rosemary extract.

In addition to its familiar ingredients, the newly formulated product delivers both improved flavor and nutritional benefits, with reduced sodium content and only 110 calories and 6 g of fat per serving. It is also minimally processed and free of BHT, BHA and other common preservatives.

"As more of our customers begin to look toward foods with simple ingredients, we are thrilled to offer a delicious turkey sausage, free of preservatives," says Mary Wieland, brand manager at Jennie-O Turkey Store. "Home cooks will love how easily the product can be added to their go-to recipes — from a lean protein added to classic breakfast dishes to a quick and tasty homemade pizza topping — it's sure to become a favorite."

The brand's latest offering comes as interest in natural and clean label foods has grown over the last several years into a major food trend. As of December 2015, more than 30 percent of consumers were cautious about serving foods with preservatives compared to 24 percent 10 years prior, according to NPD Group.1 The research group's 2016 "Report on Eating Patterns in America" indicates consumers' focus on "purity" in food will continue. The annual study shows people are seeking out minimally processed items and expectations are growing for food labels to highlight natural, recognizable ingredients.2 Today, the "Clean Supreme" trend for clean-and-clear labels is No. 1 on the Innova Market Insights list of Top 10 Trends for 2017.3

Delicious at any time of day, recipes for incorporating the sausage into breakfast burritos, casseroles, turkey sausage stuffed peppers, appetizers, quick-and-easy turkey sausage pizza and more, can be found on www.jennieo.com.

JENNIE-O® All Natural Turkey Sausage is now available at stores across the country, including Walmart, Save-A-Lot, HEB, Publix, Target, Meijer, Food Lion, Safeway, Cub Foods, Roundy's, Albertsons and many others. Packaging Spotlight: Abe Froman’s Sausage

Anyone who saw the 1986 coming of age movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, will know just how important Abe Froman was to the sausage producing industry of Chicago.

Although a private man, Abe was a tenacious and powerful food industry magnate. From humble beginnings as a butcher shop apprentice, he went on to dominate sausage production in the northern states. Often referred to as "the sausage king of Chicago" he foolishly diverted attention, investing heavily on the stock market, loosing most of his fortune in a one day 1987 market crash, known as Black Monday.

Now, thanks to a reinvention in collaboration with rebound branding consultancy Robot Food, Abe is back and looking stronger than ever, with a brand new range of sausages. Named Stateside Recipes, the product line-up celebrates flavours from many of the 50 states.

Robot Food developed the proposition, designing a strong identity that reflects Mr. Froman in his hay day. The consultancy also created the unique flavor combinations, backed up by regional on pack tone, and provenance marked by an icon which represents the relevant state.

Volkswagen Makes its Own Currywurst Sausage & Ketchup

Since the early 1970s, German automotive brand Volkswagen (VW) has been producing its own Currywurst sausage. It is made at the butchery in VW’s Wolfsburg plant, which churns out over 4.8 million Currywursts per year. For years, it was only available to its German employees and visitors to Autostadt, VW’s theme park. Now it is also available at the Deutsches Currywurst Museum Berlin, an entire museum dedicated to currywurst. In the 1990s, VW began creating their own brand of thick ketchup to top the sausage.
