Food Spotlight: Bolthouse Farms MAIO, a New Line of Refrigerated Yogurt-Based Spreads

Launching exclusively to Northern California residents, MAIO spreads are a better-for-you alternative that don't sacrifice taste and texture

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bolthouse Farms MAIO™, a new line of refrigerated, yogurt-based spreads made with clean ingredients, hits grocery shelves beginning February in Northern California Safeway stores. The MAIO spreads are available in three craveable flavors – Plain, Chipotle and Garlic – and have the same creamy, rich texture people seek in a traditional mayonnaise but with lower fat and calories. Each product in the line contains only 20 calories and 1 gram of fat per serving, and most importantly, delivers on taste.

"The popularity of traditional mayo has remained flat over recent years as consumers have steadily turned to alternative options, but they aren't always satisfied with what they can find on shelf1," says Suzanne Ginestro, General Manager, C-Fresh Innovation. "People like mayonnaise for the rich flavor and creamy texture, but are hesitant to indulge because of the calorie and fat content. Our new line of MAIO offers consumers a guiltless, better-for-you, creamy option without the sacrifice."

The MAIO spreads are non-GMO, gluten free, contain no artificial flavors, have 0 grams trans-fat, and are available in 268 Northern California Safeway stores in 8 oz. bottles with a suggested retail price of $2.99. The spreads can be found in the refrigerated produce section next to the Bolthouse Farms® dressings in the following flavors:

  • Plain
  • Chipotle
  • Garlic

MAIO is a delicious and better-for-you alternative that can enhance a variety of culinary creations including sandwiches, wraps, potato salads, dips and more.

Branded under the Bolthouse Farms name, the MAIO spreads were crafted by the innovation arm of C-Fresh (Campbell Fresh), a division of the Campbell Soup Company. Leading new product ideation and development, the innovation team is focused on building new product platforms across fast-growing, fresh-refrigerated categories.

Food News: Three Bridges Launches First-Ever Refrigerated Mac & Cheese Kit

Traditional Boxed Mac and Cheese Bites The Dust with New Innovation Made From Fresher, Better Ingredients

BENICIA, Calif., Nov. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- It's time to trade in your blue box of mac and mystery cheese dust for some real food—thanks to the launch of the industry's first-ever refrigerated mac & cheese kit. Created by Three Bridges, the leading maker of fresh, better-for-you pastas and sauces, America's favorite comfort food is finally getting a much-needed upgrade. The perfect solution for time-crunched families who want to serve up an honest meal in just 3 minutes, Three Bridges' new Creamy Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese Kit is made with clean and simple ingredients, including fresh-shredded cheddar cheese.

"In our generation of fresher, cleaner eating, we questioned why it's still appropriate to make cheese sauce from a processed cheese powder, even if it's for something as iconic American as mac and cheese," said Ryan Tu, president and CEO of Three Bridges. "We deeply connected with First Lady Michelle Obama when she stated that 'cheese dust is not food.' Real food should be made from real ingredients. We have to do better for the health of our families by having better convenient options than traditional processed food."

A growing concern around processed foods being the primary cause of childhood obesity in America makes Three Bridges a timely solution for parents who care about the quality of foods they're feeding their families. Unlike conventional boxed mac and cheese, which is made from powdered cheese flavoring or artificial processed cheese sauces, Three Bridges Creamy Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese Kit has significantly lower sodium levels per serving and contains zero preservatives, artificial flavors or colors. No added fillers or mystery foods here—just high-quality ingredients, including fresh rBST-free cheddar cheese and premium freshly cooked elbow macaroni.

Additionally, like with all their products, Three Bridges takes the chore out of cooking by empowering anyone to make this delicious dish in minutes. While other store-bought mac and cheese can take up to 15 minutes to cook, Three Bridges Creamy Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese Kit takes just 3 minutes. No microwave or boiling water required – simply add milk to the provided ingredients over stovetop for a perfectly creamy and quick meal. For step-by-step instructions on how to prepare Three Bridges Creamy Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese, check out this video.

The new Creamy Cheddar Macaroni & Cheese Meal Kit (SRP $5.49) joins Three Bridges' existing line of refrigerated pastas and sauces, and will soon be available at major grocers nationwide, including Super Target stores. For more information or to locate a store near you, visit www.ThreeBridges.com.

Lyfe healthy fast casual restaurant selling refrigerated food

Lyfe Kitchen, the healthy fast casual concept headed by a former McDonald's president, is headed to the refrigerated aisle.

The first Lyfe restaurant opened in Palo Alto, Calif., in October, and the company is considering additional locations in northern California. Expansion to the Chicago area would not be considered until 2013.

Now the company is testing a line of refrigerated foods in 20 northern California Costco locations.

"The response from the restaurant in the first few months of opening has been inspiring," Lyfe CEO and former McDonald's president Mike Roberts said in a statement. "It has indicated to us that the vision resonates with consumers and their active lifestyles."

The initial items are two family dinners, Thai Coconut Curry and Chimicuhrri Beef, and the company's signature soup, sweet corn chowder.
