Canadian Start-up, Coast Protein, hits their $20,000 Kickstarter goal in less than 72 Hours.

VANCOUVER, March 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ - Coast Protein, Western Canada's first cricket protein company launched their crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter and hit their goal in less than 72 hours. The company plans to scale production, improve packaging, and add cricket protein powders for smoothies to their product offering.

The Vancouver start-up currently sells small-batch cricket protein bars to various retailers across British Columbia. Available in two flavours: Peanut Butter and Dark Chocolate Raisin, Coast Protein locally produces around 1,000 cricket protein bars by hand every week. They are now ready to take their production to the next level and expand into the United States.

"We've found that crickets contain more calcium than milk and more iron than spinach, making them the ideal candidate for protein powder in shakes and smoothies. We've seen other healthy food trends like juicing, kombucha, and farm-to-table take off in North America and we believe that cricket protein is next," said Chris Baird, Marketing Director of Coast Protein.

Being that crickets are a complete protein, they provide a nutritional alternative to heavily processed proteins. Crickets have a full amino acid profile and are environmentally friendly.
