Food Spotlight: Oatly Vanilla Sauce

As a kid, this was the type of product that you wanted to find in the kitchen when no one else was around so you could drink it. It tastes that good. Now that you are grown up, you know such behavior isn’t very adult like but you should also know that we tried to make this so good that if you put a little on your finger, you would be tempted to revert back to those days when you were a kid and no one was in the kitchen to see you tip the jug and take a gulp.

Of course there is one big difference. This is made of oats, which means it is made on something that grows beautiful in the ground. Now over to the technical features section: you can whip it up to make it fluffy or just pour straight onto some berries from your garden or that apple pie you were thinking about making.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What’s amazing
You can use this as it is or you can whip it to smithereens and watch it fluff up to double size. It’s completely vegan and contains 0% trans fat and only 3% saturated fat (by the way the leading margarine in Sweden has 100% which when it comes to saturated fat is the full monty). Right now you could be thinking two things. Either you think this sounds great and you can’t wait to try it, or you think that all that fat talk is not enough to convince you and if that is the case, drop your smartphone, turn off your computer, jump on your segway and get to the store to give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.

What might be less amazing
So we let some sugar and extra aroma sneak into this product. Okay they didn’t sneak in there, we put them there and we did so because we think this product should be so good that your grandmother would rather serve this to her guests than the vanilla sauce she has been serving for 60 years, even if they were royal or diplomatic guests and were to stop by for a slice of apple pie after a hard day at work. Regarding our position on the palm oil used in this product I would personally like you to read this.

Ingredients
Oat base (water, oats 10%), sugar, palm oil, rapeseed oil, emulsifier (E472b, E472e), vanilla flavour, stabilizer (E415), salt, colour (beta carotene).

Drink Spotlight: Oatly Exotic Oatgurt

Have you ever been to Singapore? On the streets they sell a fruit called durian. That fruit is exotic but boy does it smell like something that you wouldn’t really want to introduce to the beauty of your tongue. Well, we just wanted you to know that we don’t have any durian in this product at all. When we say exotic we are talking about peaches and mangos and pineapples and passionfruit. You know, exotic fruits that actually taste great, not just weird and tropical. Then we added some vitamins and calcium and of course built this all around the powerful goodness of oats so that you can jump start your morning or revitalize your afternoon with a bowl or straight into the blender as a smoothie or since you look like you could use a few more suggestions perhaps teamed up with some crunchy muesli. Now we are talking.

What’s amazing
If you were a DJ, you’d know that the secret to a great set is all in the mix. So DJs, this one is for you. We’ve focused on getting the balance right, between the nutritional values that come naturally from oats and the tropical punch from all that fruit in order to keep you looking good and feeling good. Anything else?

What might be less amazing
If you look at our ingredients list and you will find citric acid which is an additive that actually works really well in this product. We are looking at the possibilities of using lemon juice instead. Why? Because we are constantly looking for ways to better all of our products from a contents standpoint. The thing is that most people like the products the way they are so before we make change we need to make sure that we can keep the same quality in taste.

Most importantly you should know that nothing goes into any of our products without a reason. We simplify whenever we can which means if we use an additive it is because we couldn’t make the product without it. Everything that goes into our products is specifically chosen with extreme care and has been scientifically proven safe for consumption. Everything is vegetable based, and includes absolutely no milk, no soy and no GMOs. One more time, no GMOs. Ever.

Ingredients
Fermented oat base (water, oats 12%, fermentation culture), fruit compound (sugar (4%), peach, mango, juice concentrate of pineapple and passion fruit, cornstarch, natural flavour and acid (citric acid)), potato starch, rapeseed oil, calcium, vitamins (D2,
Riboflavin and B12).

Contains 3,5% exotic fruits.

Drink Spotlight: Oatly Chai Oat Drink

We know what you are thinking. If you drink Chai, you have to curl up on the sofa with your best friend forever and tell secrets. Not really. Sure, it’s good for that but stereotypical settings are so limiting. The cool thing about this product is that there are two cool things. Number one: you can heat it or you can drink it cold. If you heat it, all that cinnamon and cardamom and cloves and ginger will fill your room and make things cozy, which is perfect for some alone time with your BFF. Secondly, this product not only has all the power of oats but also is enriched with vitamins and minerals, specifically iron and folic acid, which are important for women and of course all of those very, very modern men out there.

What’s amazing
Girls, this one’s for you. Exotic with all the natural spices but also straight talking with fiber, not too much protein, good carbs and healthy fat. Oh dear, did we use the F word. Fat as in 0.5% fat. And 0.5% added raw sugar. But then there is so much added goodness you can start to feel healthy just looking at the package: Folic acid, D2, B12 and iron. And then those betaglucans*, hiding out in there just waiting to work their wonders on your heart.

What might be less amazing
The only thing that we have left out of this one is calcium, but we are working on it. Our current research is looking at ways to ensure that your body can absorb the calcium when served together with iron. The D2 in this product is great but to get the full recommended daily dosage of D you will need to compliment by running outdoors without sunscreen for 30 minutes or something, but that’s not so bad.

Ingredients
Oat base (water, oats 10%), spice extract (cinnamon, cardemon, cloves and ginger), raw sugar, salt, iron, vitamins (folic acid, D2 and B12).

Drink Spotlight: Oatly Natural Energy Orange and Mango Oat Drink

If you have been reading this website from start to finish (like everyone does these days) then you know all about this drink. It’s incredibly gulpable taste and all those healthy fibers it contains. If not, then here is something else you need to know. This handheld package contains one serving of natural energy to get you to the gym, work or school all fueled up and ready to perform. Try it and let us know what you think. Potentially you might think it tastes so good that you want to try to live on these things. We wouldn’t recommend that. Oats do provide a macro nutritional balance that is difficult to find in any other food, but it’s always good to eat real meals too at some point of the day. This bottle though is the perfect friend to get you from one meal to the next.

What’s amazing

It’s the natural energy combination of oats and fruit. It’s got all the goodness form the oats (protein, fat, carbs and fibers) and only 0.5% fat. A few more benefits? Affordable, convenient, delicious, satisfying and smooth — sounds like the perfect product for all those early morning walkers on Miami Beach. Why do they wear visors and not caps? Anyway, we suggest you try a few before going to the gym and right after your workout or before your final exam or that afternoon presentation you have to do. Let us know what you think.

What might be less amazing
All energy is not created equal. You can get a boost from synthetic caffeine or shiny cans of carbonated sugar or you can get what you need from oats. So, you should know that if you are looking for a sugar kick that is not what we mean by energy. You will be disappointed and go back to powering your Green Elephant Explosion. That’s perfect. The natural energy you can look to get here is sustained energy release without the crash that follows. Just think a big morning bowl of oatmeal without all the lumps.

Ingredients
Oat base (water, oats 12 %),
fruit concentrate (fructose, concentrate of orange and
mango juice, concentrate of mango puree, acid (citric acid), flavour, colour (beta carotene)). Contains 8%
orange juice, 1% mango juice and 1% mango puree.

Super handy and portable. Tastes better than anything in the entire world. Oats are fuel, good Swedish home grown fuel. Whatever your question was you probably already know the answer. Keep ‘em chilled. Once opened, it will keep at least 5 days refrigerated.

Dairy Spotlight: Oatly iMat Fraiche

So f***ing fraiche. Are we allowed to say that? I really hope so. Well actually you can’t say that word because *** are unpronounceable but when you write them then it makes perfect sense. Anyway, we are excited to bring you this product. It’s exactly like a creme fraiche, but we upgraded the creme and used oats and now you have one of the most flexible ingredients in the modern kitchen, but you don’t have to think about the cow part. Straight up Swedish grown oats that will make whatever you want to make taste great and healthy and modern (however modern tastes these days).

What’s amazing
It’s a fraiche without the creme! There are probably a few million people out there who have been asking for this product for the last few years and now it’s here. We’ve worked really hard to make sure that our fraiche provides an upgrade over creme fraiche and if you wonder what we mean by an upgrade, well we mean that you get the same great performance, but our fraiche is lighter and cleaner and healthier. It has got 15% of nicely composed fat with only 6% being saturated compared to 9.6% from a regular creme fraiche. Then there’s something else we can’t tell you about but you’ll know it when you taste it.

What might be less amazing
In order to give this fraiche a super creamy texture and rich taste we need to use a saturated fat from a vegetable based source without relying on a cow for milk. In other words we need a saturated non-animal based fat. Our search for this fat includes extended studies and analysis into every possible solution available to create the best quality product for you, from both a health and sustainability standpoint. That’s why there is palm oil in this product.

Ingredients
Fermented oat base (water, oats, fermentation culture), vegetable oil (palm and rapeseed), potato starch, emulsifier (E472e), stabilizer (E407), acid (malic acid, lactic acid), calcium.

Nutrition information per 100 g:
Energy 735 kJ / 175 kcal
Fat 15 g
of which saturated 6 g
Carbohydrates 9 g
of which sugars 4 g*
Fiber 1 g
Protein 1 g
Salt 0 g
Calcium 120 mg (15%** of Daily Reference Intake)

* Natural sugars from oats.
** Of the Daily Reference Intake.

Other
We took our time to make this right, and now it’s here. Use it just like a creme fraiche without the creme. Performs professionally in both warm and cold dishes.

Drink Spotlight: Oatly Natural Energy Strawberry and Forest Fruit Oat Drink

On the front of this carton are the words Natural Energy. We call it that because what you need to keep active and focused throughout the day is healthy carbs. So, we put berries together with oats to create a pretty delicious way to spend your afternoon break or your bike ride to the gym. You can sip it totally laid back or drink the entire carton in one gulp, but when you are finished you will be ready to go back to doing whatever it was you were planning on doing, refueled on the power of nature. Sorry about that, we should know better than to think that we have to sell this to you. Please try one sometime if you feel like it and feel the difference it makes to be charged on something healthy or don’t, that’s cool too. Whatever.

What’s amazing
It’s the natural energy combination of oats and fruit. It’s got all the goodness form the oats (protein, fat, carbs and fibers) and only 0.5% fat. A few more benefits? Affordable, convenient, delicious, satisfying and smooth. That sounded like we were a corporate company making claims, really sorry about that. Here’s a small piece of advice. Just try it, because the taste is what does it for the guy writing this.

What might be less amazing

If you are used to drinking Green Elephant Explosion or other energy drinks you might think that this drink shouldn’t really be called an energy drink, after all we haven’t stuffed it full of chemically produced caffeine. But before you pass that judgement on it, we would like you to please consider that energy is about getting you thru the day and natural is about finding that solution in things that can be grown in nature. Fibers and carbs will give you a longer more sustainable buzz and that is the kind of energy that we would prefer to stand for.

Oat base (water, oats 12%),
apple juice concentrate, juice of strawberry (0,3%), raspberry (0,3%) and blackberry (0,3%), flavour, salt, colour (beet root red), stabilizer (pektin).
