Energy Spotlight: Is Breast Milk the Next Big Trend?

According to NYMag there is a somewhat disturbing trend making headlines of men drinking breast milk.  One of the men interviewed for the story claims “It gives me incredible energy I don’t get from other food and drinks,”

There are no studies that we know of discussing the benefits for adults drinking breast milk however this is not a new 'trend.'  Today, getting a hold of a tall, cold glass of breast milk has been made easier with websites like OnlytheBreast where individuals can buy, sell or donate breast milk.

Personally we do not have any faith that this trend will ever gain any traction outside of a handful of people that swear by it.  Even some of the men interviewed in the NYMag story have not confessed to many of their friends of their odd obsession.  I suppose the only way to find out if breast milk will be the energy drink trend of the future is to try it however we will leave that to someone else.

Tech Spotlight: NYC Subway System Gets Its First Touchscreen Maps

New Yorkers and tourists have a new way of navigating the city below the streets.

Eighteen maps have been installed at New York City's Grand Central Station in 47-inch touchscreen kiosks. They will display departures, arrivals, delays and outages, as well points of interest.

The MTA awarded the contract to install these interactive maps to technology and design firm Control Group, with the key goal of helping riders better learn the subway system. Control Group began by studying subway riders and their use of maps for one month. From these observations, it created three categories: seasoned riders, commuters going somewhere other than their normal route, and visitors. The benefits of the touchscreen maps have yet to be seen.

Packaging Spotlight: Migrant Whiskey

Designed by
Chad Michael
New York, NY, USA

Project Brief
In early 2013, I was contacted by the Trautwein Distillery Company to help them develop their new brand "Migrant".
They're a German based company who wanted to develop a brand concept on their late grandfather, Ken Trautwein, 1930's immigration passport. The whiskey is made unique by using scottish blends from their next door neighbor in Speyside which are then aged in American Oak all the while being distilled in Germany. Truly a multi-cultural experience.

Standing Only Restaurants Coming to NYC

Would you stand and eat sushi? One restaurateur hopes so.

Michio Yasuda of the ORENO Corporation tells Reuters that he plans on bringing his standing restaurant concepts to New York.

In Japan, the restaurants eschew seating in favor of price, as chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants cook meals that are more accessible and affordable than seated venues.

Yasuda owns 18 restaurants in Tokyo and wants to bring the concept to New York, allowing New Yorkers to eat quality sushi without paying hefty prices.

Packaging Concept: Organic Valley Milk Packaging

This packaging was concepted and designed during a 48 Hour Re-Pack competition hosted by the IOPP Southeast Chapter. We were given the assignment on a Friday evening and by Sunday evening our team had designed and comped our packaging and produced a two-minute video explaining the idea. We were very excited to win the compeition and even more excited when it ended up placing third in The Dieline Awards student packaging category.
