What's This All About?
As endurance athletes, we invest A LOT OF TIME into training and racing, so we take our nutrition very seriously to maximize our performance.
Then why are many of us taking gels filled with ingredients we can’t pronounce? Did you know that maltodextrin (the main ingredient in most gels) is a low-cost food additive typically found in pop, candy and chips? Is that going to help us perform our best? And, what does that do to our overall health?
Also, many people suffer from stomach distress when taking these gels. They're processed junk food and they're really thick, so they sit like a blob in our stomachs. This compromises our performance, and can also put a damper on the fun.
This is why we’ve created Endurance Tap. We are endurance athletes and we wanted to bring a better fuel to the endurance sports community. And we need your help to do it.
Why Maple Syrup?
It’s a superfood, filled with the energy, minerals and antioxidants athletes need to perform their best. If you look at the labels of most gels, they have many ingredients. This isn't because they are scientifically advanced formulations. It’s because their main ingredients (often maltodextrin and brown rice syrup) are low-quality sugars, so they need to add all the other ingredients to reach the minerals and antioxidant levels that occur naturally with maple syrup.
Here’s another way to look at it: Would you add maltodextrin and all that other mystery stuff to your oatmeal, smoothie or pancakes in the morning? Would you feed it to your children? Then why eat that when you’re training and racing?
Why is Endurance Tap better?
With all the testing we’ve done with athletes, these are the three biggest benefits we heard over-and-over again:
Even Release of Energy: all athletes reported same-to-better energy levels than with traditional gels, and without the blood sugar spikes because maple syrup is very low on the glycemic index (54 vs. 100+ for maltodextrin).
Easy to Digest: athletes that had chronic stomach issues when taking traditional gels had NO issues with Endurance Tap. They dropped their old brands and used us for their next races.
Easy to Drink: maple syrup is thinner than gels, so you don’t need water to wash it down. This means you can take your calories when you need them, regardless of your water supply. In a race, that’s huge! This also aids digestion.

Maple syrup is the base for all our flavours. Because the sodium content of maple syrup is relatively low, we add sea salt for electrolyte replacement. And while maple syrup already digests better than traditional gels, we go one step further and add a small amount of ginger - a known digestive aid - to further ensure you’ll have no stomach distress.

Hi! We're Matt and Pat. We're old high school buddies who are passionate about endurance sports and nutrition. Between the two of us we run, ride, climb, workout, swim, kayak, hike, and camp (even in the winter). We both try to eat well and live a healthy lifestyle.
