Product Launch: GODIVA Introduces Mexican Single Origin Chocolate Bars

Belgian Chocolatier Reveals Super Premium Collection

NEW YORK, Aug. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- GODIVA is delighted to announce the launch of G by GODIVA. The exquisite collection of six super premium chocolate flavors brings taste lovers on an authentic chocolate experience that enchants all senses.

Launching with a divine selection of Mexican single origin chocolate bars, G by GODIVA features both solid and decadent combinations enrobed in milk or dark chocolate couvertures. Once celebrated in ancient South American civilizations as a 'food of the gods', the Mexican single origin chocolate was selected by GODIVA's chef chocolatiers for its purity of origin, smoothness and depth of flavor.

For the chocolate purist, the 42% milk chocolate bar has hints of white flowers, peaches, apricots and vanilla that gives a well-balanced caress of the tongue. The sumptuous 68% dark chocolate has hints of licorice, plums and tobacco leaves; offering chocolate lovers a more intense taste experience.

Three bars within the collection feature exciting ingredient combinations including Dark Chocolate Toasted Coconut, Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Crisp and the Dark Chocolate Orange & Ginger Flavor. All of the premium ingredients in the collection are carefully selected and expertly blended with the Mexican chocolate by GODIVA's chef chocolatiers.

Completing the collection is the Blonde Chocolate & Salted Caramel bar. Sure to become a new classic, the blonde chocolate is crafted from a blend of white chocolate and caramelized milk chocolate and then enhanced with crunchy buttered salted caramel.

GODIVA Chef Chocolatier, Jean Apostoulou, explains, "We created this collection with the spirit of a master mixologist in mind; inventing an array of vibrant flavors to blend with the Mexican origin cocoa beans. We wanted to ensure that every bar would take chocolate lovers on a special journey of taste and texture."

The specially-designed mold is comprised of small chocolate tiles that hold delicate concave circles, creating an elegant bar. The stylish packaging features bold blocks of vibrant colors on premium textured paper with a metallic 'G' embellishing the top. Both set the scene for the magnificent taste experience within.

"G by GODIVA is where authenticity and quality meet art and passion. This is a unique collection that offers an elevated, special and memorable chocolate experience" said Chef Jean Apostoulou.

G by GODIVA is now available in U.S. stores and GODIVA.com for $7 per bar.

Packaging Spotlight: El Sabor Libre – Mexican Food Packaging

Designed by
Kathy Lees

Brief
M&S Organic Mexican Food Branding/El Sabor Libre This branding designed for an organic Mexican food range for M&S. My inspiration for this range was Mexican wrestling in Spanish (Lucha Libre). The bright colourful and fun Mexican wrestling masks bring energy, fun and vigour to the branding and packaging. The name “El Sabor” meaning to taste and “Libre” directly referencing Mexican wrestling meaning free. The typography for the logo “El Sabor Libre” is my own hand drawn typography. The branding and artwork were added to various packaging. A range of stickers were created as seals and others to indicate the contents and flavour of the food.

About the Company
Peter “PJ” Sartorio grew up in Northern California, where surfing, skiing and burritos are priorities. PJ and his friends ate a lot of burritos to fuel their active lives. He always had a passion for creating better-for-you convenience foods and noticed that there were no truly “clean” burrito options in the frozen food section of America’s supermarkets. Bing – PJ’s Organics® is born!

In 2007, PJ launched the first and only brand of organic meat burritos – using only organic ingredients sourced locally wherever possible. And hand-crafted. We’re one of the few businesses that make their own tortillas – and we’ve been hand-rolling everything before it was fashionable.

GMO's, pesticides, preservatives...won't find 'em here! From PJ's original vision, the values of integrity, authenticity and connection to family and friends drives our business forward and helps active people stay on-the-go by offering convenient premium organic food.

Regional themes will highlight 2013 flavor trends

NORTHBROOK, ILL. — Regional American and regional Mexican and Latin American flavors will be among the top flavor trends in 2013, according to Bell Flavors & Fragrances.

In the savory segment, the company said Mexican food consumption is increasing faster than any other segment in the food service category and is also becoming more popular for home preparation. As a result consumers will be looking for regional Mexican and Latin American flavors, which may include flavors derived from Aji Amarillo, a Peruvian yellow chile powder, sofrito, which commonly features garlic, onion and tomatoes, and moles. There will also be more interest in regional cuisines in the U.S. such as New Orleans seafood boil, bourbon and Andouille sausage.

In the beverage segment, Bell Flavors and Fragrances predicts sweet beverages will continue to grow as the beverage category is taking ideas from confectionery trends and seeing new flavors based on favorite desserts. There will be an emphasis on horchatas, which are Latin America beverages, whipped cream and butterscotch. To spice things up, flavors such as cardamom, jalapeno and chai will also be used to help differentiate familiar beverage products. Overall, consumers will look for functional beverages with less salt, fat and sugar, according to Bell.

In the sweet and dairy segment, trends will focus on nostalgia as dessert flavors are gaining interest to provide an escape from a hectic lifestyle. Economic difficulties are leading consumers to desire stability and things reminiscent of the “good old days.” This may lead to the increased use of flavors such as peanut butter, hot chocolate and rhubarb. Mediterranean flavors will also be popular in this segment as health and wellness continues to grow in importance to consumers, and flavors such as honey cinnamon and fennel seed will be featured.

Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant plans new fast-casual spinoff

Food Concepts International is planning a fast-casual spinoff of its Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant in late October with the opening of the new Abuelo’s Taqueria in its home base of Lubbock, Texas.

The 41-unit Abuelo’s casual-dining chain has designed the Taqueria concept to offer Mexican items as well as salads, vegetables and house-made sauces and salsas. The unit will also serve beer and margaritas.

Robert Lin, president of Lubbock, Texas-based Food Concepts International, said, "Abuelo’s Taqueria offers us a way to further express our passion for food in a distinctively different way, while at the same time giving our guests the same quality they have come to expect from Abuelo’s.”

The Taqueria will cover about 3,500 square feet, compared with the typical full-service Abuelo’s unit size of 6,800 square feet, the company said. Also, the spinoff will seat 96, compared to the 225 seats in a typical Abuelo’s full-service unit

Guests at the new Abuelo’s Taqueria will order and pay at the counter. The company is still considering the options of customers picking up the food at the counter or having runners deliver it to the table, according to Melanie Carroll, director of communications for Food Concepts.

Fast-casual spin-offs from full-service restaurants have been ongoing since the 2000 introduction of Pei Wei Asian Diner by P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and extend to family dining with concepts from Denny’s, IHOP, Shoney’s and others.

Taco Food Trucks Head to Paris

Given Paris' very long tradition of streetside food stands, I can't quite embrace this article hyping the arrival of food trucks on the scene as an import from the United States. But whether served from trucks or however else, Paris could certainly use more tacos:

Many Parisians have never eaten a soft taco, much less one stuffed with succulent pork carnitas and chipotles in adobo — which, along with the masa harina for the tacos, Mr. Feilders imports directly from Mexico.
