Who are the Merchants?
We are Sean and Danny, founders of Meat Merchants, and school friends of old. After pursuing our own foodie dreams we’ve reunited to explore a shared love for quality meat and tasty beer. Tired of crying into our pints over the state of traditional pub snacks, we are moved to change things for the better. An idea was born and the pub snack revolution begins.
I (Dan Searle), run two pubs in my hometown of Norwich and Sean Cannon runs a busy charcuterie wholesale business, a delicatessen and a London restaurant. It’s a match made in pub snack Heaven!
Why do we exist?
As a beer drinker (or just a serious snacker) the options for a tasty snack over the bar are seriously lagging behind the offerings of today’s forward-thinking drinking establishments, not to mention the rest of the world. And so we believe that it is high time that someone put together a top quality, affordable and meaty pub snack with a modern brand feel and an ethical grounding.
With a wealth of experience in both the sale of fine charcuterie, and in running beer-focused pubs, we are ideally placed to source a range of cured meat snacks that improve drastically upon the humble salted peanut. The quality of the beer being produced in this country is now phenomenal, and it’s our intention to provide a snack that can hold its own amidst the flavours of craft beer and good real ale.
What exactly do we offer?
The Meat Merchants range showcases dry-cured meats of the highest quality; packaged and ready to be sold without hassle, over the bar - or indeed, delivered to your home. The range has been chosen to compliment beer, though our products go very well with wines and in fact pretty much anything that’s wet and in the pub.
Over time our range will expand according to where our taste buds take us. We are Merchants, and we want to bring the finest cured meat snacks to the British drinker.
Our launch range consists of:
Best-quality, air-dried Chorizo, handily divided into bite-size pieces. Lean pork meat is blended with paprika, spices, chilli, and herbs. Flavour profile is spicy and rich. Packs weigh in at 40g.

Snacking Beef / Hot Snacking Beef
Biltong by another name. Lean slabs of silverside are swathed in spices and curing salts, and then hung up to dry slowly. We currently offer two varieties: one made with and one without hot spices. Our Hot Snacking Beef is markedly spicier than the ‘standard’ variety. Packs weigh in at 35g.
What We Need & What You Get
We are looking for £3500 to invest in the best possible packaging for the product and its intended use. We have been working on this project for almost a year now and find ourselves at the final stages with hopes and dreams of launching January 2015!
We have been working with various packaging along the way and in order to avoid quality issues and deliver the best looking product possible we have found the perfect packaging solution (after lots of trial error we have to admit!).
However there is a large investment required into kilos of pre-printed packaging. All of our funds raised will go directly toward this.
