About the Ketchup
'Chups are fruit-based sauces and dips made to enhance and brighten the traditional tomato-dominated ketchup market.
Ketchup is a condiment that was conceived in Asia, adopted by the English, and emmigrated to America. Today it is more prevalent, more popular, and arguably more American than apple pie. It’s in every restaurant, at every cookout, offered at every food stand.
But as Malcolm Gladwell stated in 2004, ketchup has a conundrum. Tomato has cornered the market. The "fregetable” (fruit + vegetable) has dominated a sauce whose base was meant to come from any fruit - all fruits! Because of this, we have denied our taste buds a world of wallop we didn’t even know existed.
Don’t get us wrong, we love tomatoes. And we love and respect the tangy, well-rounded tomato flavor our predecessors have perfected for over a century. But we also believe in the equality of fruits -- that your mouth has the right to enjoy multiple flavors of the amazing condiment that is ketchup.
Where traditional tomato ketchup provides a general flavor enhancement to food, 'Chups fruit ketchups provide the same texture and zip, with new, exciting flavors and ingredients. Find your favorite and your taste buds will thank you.
About the Company
Brought together by the beautiful game, we met when joining the same adult co-ed soccer team in Washington, DC. We passed the ball to each other before even speaking, but once the talking started we quickly realized there was more in common than just footy. Virginia roots, a love for comedy ... and of course, very enthusiastic appetites. Partners in the practice of “living to eat” not “eating to live”, we spend a lot of our time obsessing over food.
Some time ago, "Master Chef" Matt made up a delicious dinner, as he so often does. Always one with a flair for flavor, he whipped up a batch of homemade cherry ketchup to go with our [gourmet!] turkey burgers. It was delicious. Similar to traditional tomato ketchup, but different in a thrilling, almost rebellious way.
Enter summer 2012. Matt harkened back to that one fateful evening we didn’t rely on Heinz and suggested an idea that was simple and sweet. He proposed we set out to challenge the traditional tomato-dominated market and create a line of tangy ketchups made from other fruits. We started introducing our creations to friends and family, bringing them to cook outs and tailgates. The response was very enthusiastic. Not only were people grasping the idea of fruit ketchups and their potential in the market, but most importantly, they loved the flavors!
So here we are, working to take our passion for fruits and condiments to the next level.
