Lyfe Kitchen, the healthy fast casual concept headed by a former McDonald's president, is headed to the refrigerated aisle.
The first Lyfe restaurant opened in Palo Alto, Calif., in October, and the company is considering additional locations in northern California. Expansion to the Chicago area would not be considered until 2013.
Now the company is testing a line of refrigerated foods in 20 northern California Costco locations.
"The response from the restaurant in the first few months of opening has been inspiring," Lyfe CEO and former McDonald's president Mike Roberts said in a statement. "It has indicated to us that the vision resonates with consumers and their active lifestyles."
The initial items are two family dinners, Thai Coconut Curry and Chimicuhrri Beef, and the company's signature soup, sweet corn chowder.
