MALIA BAR began when Lisa Fernandes couldn’t find a snack food good enough for Maya, her school-going daughter
Lisa insisted it be genuinely wholesome, but knew it had to be great tasting as well. While tasty and convenient snacks were plentiful in the Indian marketplace, what Lisa considered truly healthy & nutritious were just not in plain sight. This, despite several brands making tall claims
Her only solution was to make it herself. And fortunately she was splendidly equipped to do it.
In the many years Lisa lived overseas, her keen interest in nutrition and ‘eating healthy’ got serious traction. She participated in various forums, groups and professional courses, all linked to the premise that ‘you are what you eat’. Further, easy access to the choicest healthy ingredients from all over the world contributed to Lisa’s expanding repertoire. That her husband, Ajit, was himself in the thick of marketing consulting in the burgeoning North American Organic & Natural Foods market, further enhanced her insights. He had done projects on several packaged food products including ‘raw-food’ nutrition bars that were simple, pure and delicious. So Lisa knew that a snack could be at the same time wholesome, healthy & delicious
